Arigato! ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ The sun beams sparkled brilliantly threw the trees, casting it’s light down onto the tiny “camp”. Ryoga winced as the light hit his eyes. He woke up, stretched, then looked over to Ukyo, who was curled up, actually, more like entangled in her sleeping bag. Ryoga placed a hand on Checker’s head and she woke up, saw Ryoga, and pounced him down licking his face vigorously. “Aiyah!! Down Checkers, down!” Ryoga cried as the large dog gave his face a good cleaning. Ukyo heard Ryoga’s cry and woke up and rubbed her eyes, seeing blurs till her vision cleared, where she saw the large dog ontop of Ryoga, while Ryoga struggled to get it off. Ukyo laughed, then, when trying to get up, found herself topple over the opposite way. “Arg!!! I’m tangled up!!!” Ukyo scrunched up then began slinking to Ryoga like a worm, then yelled to him “Ryoga, help me out of this thing!!!!” She pleaded as she tumbled over to her side. Ryoga finally got free of Checkers and laughed as he saw Ukyo’s struggles to get out of the sleeping bag. He walked over and said “1....2.....3!!” and pulled on Ukyo’s arms, pulling her out of the sleeping bag, but, by his misfortune, falling backwards and the sleeping bad engulfing him from the waist up. He screamed “WHO TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF?!?!” Ukyo got up and dusted herself off, then tended to Ryoga by tugging the sleeping bag off his head. Ryoga sighed, relieved to again be able to see. Ukyo smirked. Ryoga thought to himself “I’m glad Ranma wasn’t here to see that, He’d probably start off with something like “Hey! It’s a pig in a blanket!” he scowled at the thought of Ranma. He shook his head and sniffed the air, the sent of okonomiyaki baking over fire luring him over to the newly-lit fire that Ukyo made. He sat down, Checkers resting her head in it’s masters lap. ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ Ukyo took out 2 wooden plates from her bag and handed one to Ryoga, and kept one for herself. She flipped the okonomiyakis over and waited till they where a golden brown, then placed 2 on Ryoga’s plate, and one on hers. “One of those is Checkers’, Ryoga.” Ryoga nodded and tossed the okonomiyaki up in the air, Checkers jumping up catching it in her mouth. They both ate breakfast in silence, when Ukyo suddenly remembered the sign she saw. “Oh!! Last Night I saw a sign behind the trees over there saying “Your now leaving Nerima!” Ryoga’s ears perked up. “Re-Really?!” Ukyo nodded. Ryoga hugged Checkers. “Good dog!!” Ukyo listened closely and heard some water flowing. “I’m going to see if there is a place where I can take a quick bath, I think I heard some water. You keep eating, I’ll be right back!” Ukyo got up and walked towards its source, sure enough, after walking around 10 minutes, she came across a tiny lake. She took off her cloths and placed them neatly on a tree branch, then dived in the crystal clear water. She sighed happily. “You always have time for being cleanly...” She leaned her head back and relaxed. ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ Ryoga picked up his okonomiyaki and started nibbling on it, when Checkers, done with her okonomiyaki but still hungry grabbed it out of his hand and ran in the direction Ukyo went. “Hey you mutt!!! That’s my breakfast!!!” Ryoga dived up and chased after the dog, threw the forest, the sound of water getting closer and closer, but not seemly noticing till Checkers stops dead. Ryoga grabbed the okonomiyaki from the dog. “AHA!” He then looked over in the direction that Checkers was looking in and saw Ukyo in the water, then out of the corner of his eye her cloths hanging on a nearby branch. Ukyo looked over her eyes widening. “RYOGA NO HENTAI!!!” she screamed. Ryoga turned bright red and feeling his nose heat up, blood spurt out like a gyser. Falling backwards, he fainted before he hit the ground. Ukyo jumped out of the lake, covering up best as possible and getting dressed as fast as she can. She walked over to Ryoga’s now unconchious self and leaned over him. “Wake up you hentai jerk!” She said slapping his face around afew times. He shook his head abit and came-threw, his vision destorted till it came together, showing a very pist off okonomiyaki chef. Ryoga fumbled up, laughing nervously and pointed at Checkers. “Took..okonomiyaki...run..here...see..you..faint...” was all Ryoga could bumble out as an explanation. Ukyo kneed him in the stomach. “Jackass....” Ryoga bent over holding his stomach with one hand, the okonomiyaki in the other. Ukyo rolled her eyes. “Now that I’m out of the water we might as well get on the road again, It’s going to be a long trip to Jusenkyo.” Ryoga nodded. Ukyo took out a napkin from her pocket and hands it to Ryoga. “I’d clean up if I where you, your all bloody!” Ryoga blinked, then remembered and whipped his nose off. Luckily, he didn’t get any blood on his shirt, just all over poor Checkers, who didn’t seem to really mind since she ran into the water and cleaned herself off, running back and shaking her fur off, soaking Ryoga. Ryoga yelled. “DUMB MUTT!!” Checkers whimpered. “Don’t yell at Checkers!! Your the one who got blood all over the poor thing!!” Ryoga grumbled. “Now common, we got a long way to go. They both walked towards their camp, packed quickly, and walked to the sign. They glanced around then saw the highway, yet again. They walked onto it, both happy to see it again, but then terror struck Ryoga. “A-A crossroad!!” Ukyo looked at the split road. One direction seemed dark and covered in trees and shrubbery, the other bright with birds singing echoing threw it merrily. “I say we take that way!” Ryoga said pointing to the bright road. Ukyo took out the map she was carrying. “The map says we should take the other.” Ryoga facefaulted. Ukyo raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Scared, Ryoga?” Ryoga shook his head. “No, but I’ve been traveling in darkness all my life. I wanted to know what the opposite was like!” Ryoga said defensively. Ukyo sighed and began walking to the dark path. She extended a hand to Ryoga. “Common, your wasting time!” Ryoga took her hand, not wanting to get lost again, and they both wandered into the dark path. ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ As the walked, Ukyo turned her head every so often, noticing that the way they came seemed to be getting engulfed by the vines and dark trees that surrounded them. Checkers slinked behind them, her tail in-between her legs whimpering some. The path somehow felt like it was narrowing around them, giving them less and less room. Ukyo admitted to herself that the tall trees where very intimidating, but that wasn’t going to stop her. She tightened her grip on Ryoga’s hand as the last ray of light was swallowed up by the trees towering above them. A lone raven’s caw was heard echoing menacingly threwout the area, mocking them. Ukyo refused to be mocked by the raven. The crunching of the leaves under their feet was the only sound heard as they thrudged threw the path, till it became so narrow, that Ukyo had to hack down a path of her own with her spatula, following the cleared, tiny dirt path that it had narrowed into. With one finally hack, a group of bats swooped down from a tree Ukyo screaming as they swarmed around her, checkers leaping up trying to catch one. Ryoga waved his arms around getting them away. Ukyo looked down and saw a skull there. She jumped back abit, but calmed down. She leaned back and whispered to Ryoga “Someone doesn’t want us taking this path, do you remember going to Jusenkyo being this hard?” Ryoga thought for a moment. He laughed nervously. “I....forget!” Ukyo grabbed him by the collar. “What do you MEAN you FORGET?!?!?!” Ryoga whimpered. “Well..um...I...didn’t really think it was that important!” Ukyo dropped him and grumbled. “You jackass!!!” Ryoga growled. Ukyo sighed abit. “Fighting will get us nowhere, We got to work as a team to get threw this path and out to god knows whatever is beyond it.” Ryoga nodded in agreement. They walked past the skull. Ukyo looked at the map she was carrying. “There should be some sort of clearing soon, we have to go northwest from there...” They looked in the direction the skull was pointing. They parted a bush and looked threw it, seeing a clearing. Ukyo stepped forward, to find her foot engulfed in the mud, which was apparently quick sand. Ryoga pulled her foot out of it. “What is quick sand doing here?!” Ukyo said breathlessly. Ryoga shrugged. “We just got to be careful around here I guess.” He picked up some rocks that where lying around and threw them, forming his own path across the clearing, which now was more a bog to them. They rock jumped over to the other side where the path began again. They both followed the path again, Checkers infront of them both. Checkers suddenly stopping dead in her tracks. A fork in the road. Ukyo looked at the map. "A fork in the road?! This shouldn't be here..." She searched all over the map, no split paths noticeable. She sighed. "Well...the map said we should follow the path west..so..we take the path going to the west." Ryoga nodded, not really sure if she was right or not, already confused at the events that had happened that day. They walked west, the path seemly to last forever. They walked for 3 strait hours before Ukyo finally stopped. "Ryoga..let's take a break, okay?" Ryoga blinked. "Break? Why?" He looked again, confused. A little vein popping out on the side of her head, she clenched her fist. "I'm tired...we've been walking for god only knows how long without stopping!" Ryoga crossed his arms. "You agreed to come with me, lady!" With that, Ukyo took out her spatula and gave Ryoga a nice big bump on his head, knocking him out, Ryoga doing the "I love you" sign as he fainted. Ukyo sat down on a nearby rock while Checkers rested by her feet. "You know..Checkers. I'm not sure going on this trip to Jusenkyo was such a good idea after all. I mean, sure it was a good idea at the time..but...I just don't know. Things have already gone bad. I'm beginning to miss my restaurant...the sounds of customers bustling in and out, the smell of the okonomiyaki wafting threw the air...the sound of Konatsu sweeping the floors and greeting the customers..." She looked down and gently petted the dogs head. Checkers looked up at her with big brown puppy dog eyes and she couldn’t help but smile. She heard a moaning sound then she saw Ryoga stir, then sit up holding his head. Ryoga stood up and rubs his head abit more. Ukyo stood also, along with Checkers. Just as Ryoga opened his mouth to begin yelling, Ukyo grabbed him by the hand and started dragging him down the trail. The dumbfounded Ryoga could only stutter. "B-B-But you said you wanted to rest!" Ukyo smirked. "I already did!" Ryoga tried to sort things out in his head while the young okonomiyaki chef dragged him along the path. ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ Ukyo grinned widely as she saw a small flickering light infront of her. "We're almost out!" She cried happily releasing Ryoga's wrist and running ahead, an excited Checker's chasing after Ukyo barking. Ryoga, not in too much of a rush simply followed. When he looked up he saw a wide-eyed Ukyo, her hands clasped together. He felt Checkers tail banging against his leg. He saw bright lights, so bright he had to shield his eyes abit. It was a city. Finally. "Already?!" Ryoga said shocked. Ukyo examined her map again, then finding a corner that was bent, found the fork in the road. "If we went on the other path we would've had twice as long a walk here...we took the other path, which lead strait threw the forest and here!" She smiled widely. Ryoga rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, I'm just glad we didn’t get lost again!" Ukyo couldn’t help but chuckle abit. They both walked down the hill which they stood upon looking down at the lights. Ukyo again took hold of Ryoga's wrist. Ryoga couldn’t help grumble some words along the lines of "hey, I’m not a baby!" Luckily enough for him, Ukyo didn’t hear his words. Ryoga felt like a child having to be led around. He wasn’t used to being lead, he was used to getting lost and eventually finding his way back. People stopped and starred at the 2 as they walked by. Ukyo didn’t notice but just afew days of walking took it's toll on her. Her cloths where dirty, her hair, even though just washed, was abit frizzy and her ribbon half undone. Ryoga didn't look that well himself. His pants and shirt where dusty and his hair messy, the only thing keeping the raven strands in order was his bandanna. Ryoga was used to these stares. He’d get them whenever he walked threw any place where there was people, and a much odder stare when he would burst into a restaurant or home yelling "DOES ANYONE KNOW THE WAY TO FURINKAN HIGH SCHOOL!?!" Most of the time terrible disappointed by a "No, your in Alberkurky" or some other god forsaken place. Ukyo, however, wasn’t used to these stares all too well. The only time she would receive some similar was when someone found out she was a girl when she was wearing her school uniform. Ukyo looked around curiously, Ryoga not giving his surroundings 2 cents worth. To him all cities where the same. Crowded and usually Ranma-less, which up till now was his main goal. He found his thoughts drifting back to Ranma, and eventually to Akane. He pushed the thoughts from his mind. For a moment Ryoga stopped right where he stood, the depression of his thoughts building up as a low green glow surrounded him. "Akane married the person I hate the most....Akari slammed the door in my face...I've nothing to do but get rid of this curse....the one thing that keeps me tied to Nerima...to Akane...to..RYOGA!!!" Ryoga blinked, then opened his eyes to see Ukyo screaming his name. "Ryoga you JACKASS how could you scare me like that!!!" Ukyo said, beginning to calm down. "Scare her..?" he thought. "So-Sorry.." he stammered. Ukyo rolled her eyes. "Common...we should find a place to sleep for tonight. I think I have enough money to rent an apartment for tonight, besides, I need to buy more supplies so I'll have enough for the week. According to the map, there won't be another town for another 50 miles." Ryoga grinned inwardly. He hated cities, towns, any area that had a mass amount of people. He’d grown to accept living off of what he found. He couldn’t deny that he enjoyed Ukyo making him dinner every night. He wondered if he’d ever get sick of her okonomiyaki, and what would happen if he told her. He shuddered. "That would be almost as bad as if Akane found out I was p-ch.." Ryoga again found himself afraid. What if Ukyo found out the only reason he wanted to go to Jusenkyo was to cure his curse....or found out about his curse, period! He couldn’t let that happen. She’d never forgive him and once again he’d be on his own! Ryoga shook off the thoughts. "Yeah..let’s find that inn!" ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ They both wandered around for a moment. Ukyo pointed. “There! An inn!” Ryoga blinked and tried to read the sign. “A-Ad-Adob-” Ukyo raised an eyebrow. It never occurred to her that Ryoga didn’t know how to read. “Having alittle trouble, Ryoga?” Ryoga blushed brightly. Ukyo pointed out each symbol to him “A-d-o-b-y-” she said for the first work, looking over at Ryoga who was paying close attention. She smiled and continued. “S-u-n-s-e-t” she looked over again, seeing Ryoga mouth the letters along with her. She finished with “L-o-d-g-e-i-n-g. And that spells?” Ryoga studied the sign, then replayed Ukyo’s words for a moment. “Adoby...sunset ....lodging?” Ukyo smiled brightly and nodded. “See! There is hope for you yet, Ryoga!” Ryoga blushed abit and flashed Ukyo one of his toothy grins. She chuckled. “Common, sugar!” Ryoga followed her in. “Noone ever taught me something besides my mother and my teachers...” he thought to himself, playing over Ukyo’s kindness. A kind old man looked up at them. “Why hello!” he said leaning over the counter. “How may I help you, kids?” Ukyo leaned over the counter. “We’d like to get a room for the night.” she said with a smile. “Well then, we have afew rooms available. Looking for anything special?” Ukyo exchanged glances with Ryoga, only to find his expression was fully blank. A sweatdrop found it’s way down her head. “Well...um...we dont have that much money to spend so...” “Say no more!” the man said piping up. “I have just the room for you. It will cost 5,000 yen for the night. Is that in price range?” Ukyo thought a moment, she brought enough. With a smile, she nodded. “All right, Here you go! Room 245. Enjoy your stay!” Ukyo accepted the key and walked upstairs and located the room. They both opened the door and walked in, to be greeted by the sent of freshly picked roses. There where 2 beds, along with a vace of roses on a little table nearby. Ukyo sighed, thinking this wasn’t like her old room, but it would have to do. Ryoga set his things down and inhaled. He wasn’t used to such a “lavish” room. “I’m going to take another shower.” Ukyo said pulling some things from her backpack. “Another one?! Damn...I never knew girls took this many baths!” Ukyo smirked. “I suggest you take one later too, it will be a week before the next city. I don’t want you attracting every fly in the area, like a pig!” Ryoga began stuttering “p-p-pig?!” Ukyo raised an eyebrow. Ryoga began blushing. “Aheh...yeah, your right! I’ll take a bath after you!” They both heard scratching at the door. “Checkers!” Ukyo cried. She opened the door and let the dog in. “Aw I’m sorry girl, I forgot!” Checkers whimpered. Ryoga walked over. “Aw relax, mutt! We wouldn’t leave ya out there!” Ryoga spent most of the time relaxing while Ukyo was taking her shower. She walked out with a towel wrapped around her. “Your turn, Ryoga” Ryoga looked up from the book he was attempting to read, saw a small amount of cleavage on Ukyo, and his nose began twitching. “Aiyah!!” She said covering up and grabbing another towel, running over to Ryoga and stuffing it by his nose just as the blood spurt out, then he blacked out. When Ryoga opened his eyes again he saw Ukyo was in a teal nightshirt and pants, sitting on her bed writing in a journal, her hair down and cascading over her shoulders. Ryoga felt his nose heat up abit. Ukyo looked over and smiled. “Sorry bout before.” Ryoga’s nose heated up more seeing her smile. “Why is Ukyo making me act like this?! Was she ever this pretty before?! Why should I notice now?!” Questions raced threw his head, but he banished them to the furthest region of his mind. “I-It’s okay.” He got up and walked to the bathroom, grabbing a new pair of cloths from his bag, he walked into the bathroom and closed the door. Ukyo lied back and continued to write in her journal. “Today was a very odd day...I woke up and made okonomiyaki for everyone, then I went off to take a quick swim in a stream I heard. Ryoga being eather really hentai or really stupid somehow stumbled upon me taking a shower. I swear I don’t know how that guy can loose so much blood! He had a nose bleed almost 5 times today! Anyways, we traveled on this odd path then came upon a city...or town. We don’t know the name. Ryoga said we made pretty good time here. I guess since he is the traveler, I should trust that he’s correct. But it sort of hard when he has the nickname “The Eternally Lost Boy” she paused and chuckled, then continued writing. “I guess traveling with him isn’t so bad. I still have my doubts about it, but the jackass is good company...guess better then always being lonely, and Checkers is so adorable!” she stopped writing and stuffed her journal into her bag. Ryoga walked out wearing what appeared to be the same thing he went in wearing, but clean. “Do you ever where anything besides that?” Ukyo said curiously. Ryoga laughed nervously. “Yeah, but I didn’t feel like having to wake up early and have to change!” Ukyo grinned abit. “So Ryoga...you have trouble reading, don’t you?” Ryoga sighed abit and nodded. Ukyo motioned him over. “Come over here, sugar” He walked over, then nervously took a seat next to her. Ukyo pulled a book out of her backpack. He looked close to the title “Ha-Ham-Hamet?” Ukyo frowned abit. “It’s called Hamlet. A famous English man wrote it named Shakespeare. It’s pretty good. If you learn to read this stuff, you can read anything!” *it’s translated in Japanese,of coarse!* Ryoga took the book. Ukyo opened it up and began reading, pausing to let Ryoga try. They both continued to do that for awhile, till they both where about to fall asleep. Ukyo put the book on the nightstand. “We can do more of this tomorrow, if you’d like” Ukyo said with a smile. Ryoga nodded. “I’d like that alot..” He said getting up and walking over to his bed. He crawled under the covers, Checkers lying in-between the 2 beds. Ukyo reached over and turned out the light. “Night Checkers, Night Eternally Lost Boy!” Ukyo said with a giggle. “Hey!” Ryoga said defensively. “Just kiddin Ryoga, Night!” Ryoga smiled abit. “Night..” Everything was silent for a moment, then Ryoga spoke up abit. “Ukyo...?” Ukyo kept her eyes close and sleepily mumbled “Yes..?” “Thank you...” Ukyo smiled. “Your welcome...Night..” she said closing her eyes and falling asleep. Everything was quiet except for their breathing, and the thumping of Checkers tail against the floor. Ryoga remained awake for awhile, thinking over the day. He first found Ukyo sort of a tag-along, but now as a companion. He was glad to have someone to talk to besides Checkers. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep. ~***************************~~~@~~~**************************~ Yet another chapter done! I hope you liked it!
